Following Round 3 of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, in Anaheim, CA, Stewart continued to experience severe pain in the wrist. Although previous x-rays had not indicated there was a break, an MRI performed yesterday and reviewed by medical experts today, revealed the bone was broken. Icon Variant: A Dirt Bike Helmet For The Street

Icon’s satisfying a lot of rider’s wishes by creating the Icon Variant, a helmet that combines off-road looks, ventilation and peripheral vision with street refinement. We’ve been impressed with the progress Icon has shown in quality; this helmet moves them one step closer to competing with established helmet makers with the use of a carbon/dynema/fiberglass composite shell and a moisture wicking liner. Full details covered in the video below. And don’t worry, it comes in classy plain colors in addition to the skulls and other macho ephemera.

Montrealer – Patrick Trahan finishes the Dakar

trahan_dakarMontrealer Patrick Trahan has just joined an elite group of only six Canadians who’ve completed the Dakar Rally!
Lawrence Hacking, Guy Giroux, Eric Dubeau, Sean Price, and Bob Bergman being the others. Trahan finished 55th out of 88 finishers – 176 motorcyclists were on the competitors list at the start of the race. The 2010 running was Trahan’s third attempt at it and the 31st running of the event.
The race is said to be one of the biggest challenges in motorsports – being on par with climbing Everest. It’s a bit hard to make a comparison like that but covering some 9,000 km’s, with the majority of that off-road, through rocks, sand dunes, difficult terrain, and sweltering heat over fourteen days it’s very clear this race is among the toughest out there.

Trahan rode with Team Honda Europe and collected a lot of the $80,000 needed for him to compete in the Dakar this year. A big investment. There’s no prize money for competing; just the glory that comes with having competed.
There were definitely some highs and lows during the race for Trahan. A low, or maybe a high, depending on your perspective would be surviving a crash at 120 km/hr with only bruises and some bike damage – he was able to continue on to finish the race! He decided to slow it down a little after that though.

Dakar Rider Crashes Into Tomb

Story from Dakar Rally Blog
Dakar_Tomb-thumb-Swedish Dakar competitor Annie Seel got a nasty surprise when she veered off course on her KTM and suddenly found herself riding into a 16-foot deep vertical tomb. We’ll let her describe it, “The track split around some ruins, and joined again after. To avoid dust I cut from right track over to the left, across a small rise. Behind the rise a 5m deep tomb opened, 2×3 wide. I rode to slow to jump and to fast to stop. Put brakes on, slide bike to the left and abandon ship. I managed to jump to the left edge while bike tumbled down. I am lucky not to go down cause the walls were impossible to climb.”
