AMA SX: Interview: Chad Reed

Love him or hate him, Chad Reed is one of the most iconic figures in the sport of Supercross, and since his championship-ending injury in Phoenix — despite all the stellar racing between two of the sport’s youngest stars — things just haven’t been the same in his absence.

Last weekend in Houston, Reed returned to action and put forth a respectable fourth place effort after sitting on the sidelines for 10 rounds. To say this season has been a disappointment for Reed would be a severe understatement as he was forced to miss a supercross race for the first time in his exceedingly successful career. However, during his time away, Reed found some positives and has also been able to dedicate a lot of much needed time to his personal health and his growing family — wife Ellie is due with the couple’s first child any day.

Chad sat down with SPEEDtv.com and discussed his injury, returning to the series, the new chapter of his life, and of course his well-documented relationship with James Stewart

Christophe Pourcel has lived a Hollywood-like comeback story, fighting back from paralyzed to champion.

Christophe Pourcel became a familiar name in the motocross world during the 2006 season when he captured the FIM MX2 World Motocross Championship at just 18 years of age. The French-born rider was a surefire star in the making and the following season he made a short foray to the U.S. to take his chances at racing supercross. Instantly he found success, winning in Phoenix for Mitch Payton’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team. It appeared as though Pourcel’s future was set. After a defense of his MX GP title, he would return to the States to become a full-time supercross and American Motocross competitor. Then things took an unfortunate turn.

KTM’s All-New Electric Bike Unveiled

It’s currently on display at the 2010 Tokyo Motorcycle Show – KTM’s all-new “Freeride”, the Austrian manufacturer’s first zero-emission motorcycle prototype. There are actually two “near-series prototypes” slated to be on display, an off-road version as well as what appears to be a supermoto version, likely aimed at being street-legal.

As for the official release of the Freeride, KTM says development is right on target, and plans to have them available in Europe as early as late spring of 2011. As far as whether or not the Freeride will make its way to the U.S… KTM says that has not yet been decided.

No MSRP has been announced, but the manufacturer plans to keep the price competitive with current enduro machines which they say is under 10,000 Euro. (At the current exchange rate, that roughly translates to $13,000.)
